What would we answer if we paused for a moment to reflect on ourselves, on our life, and asked ourselves: “Am I living the life I want? Am I directing my mind and energies to create what I want? Probably, we would not even know how to explain the life we would like; we never thought about it, being always focused on the immediate tasks of daily life, or we thought about it, but we immediately gave up because the mind has blocked our daydream . We said to ourselves several times: “I can’t do it”. Very often, more than being protagonists and creators of our life, we just live letting the days go by, simply trying not to succumb to the various problems that we encounter on our path regularly. In fact, therefore, we do not invest neither time nor resources to build what we want. If we want our dreams to come true we should start thinking about the life we would like to live. For this change of course it is essential, first of all, to be aware of what thoughts our mind produces, what words we use with others, with ourselves (in the inner dialogue) and what emotions we cultivate. The more we are aware, the more we will be able to choose: if we realize that a thought is useless, or even harmful, we may decide to change it with a positive and constructive one, but, if we do not we realize it, our mind will continue to feed negative thoughts that make us feel more and more sick. Let’s get used to observing the fluctuations of the mind, and ourselves, as if we were mere external witnesses, gradually learning to detach ourselves from our thoughts and our emotions. A mindfulness retreat can help us work on personal development and mental and physical well-being. For a long time, we have been trying to offer serious programs for those who are in situations of stress, exhaustion, depression, loneliness, pain or anxiety.
Mindfulness programs and anti-burnout programs to start a journey of personal growth, for those who wish to take a relaxing break and a wellness holiday in a peaceful environment where they can cultivate their well-being and learn to take care of themselves.
At New Life in Portugal, we found all these elements in the proposed wellness retreats. A place where you can challenge yourself and at the same time feel nourished. Rest in beauty and tranquility, or alternatively, be active and busy. Individually you will be supported in the search for perfect balance. Holistic and integrative, New Life Portugal’s approach to wellbeing operates at the intersection of committed community life, awareness, compassion, physical self-care, counseling, life coaching and nature. Our neurologically embodied patterns can be changed as we bring awareness and compassion into our present moment experience – and then practice the change. Studies also show that a key component of well-being comes from being part of a community: a sense of “meaningful belonging” or the feeling of contributing purposefully.
