In the course of life, everyone has to face difficult moments of a crisis. One moment everything is fine and the second after all changes. This discomfort can be caused by an important change such as an illness or an accident, the death or deperture of a loved one, work problems, relationship problems. Or when absolutely unexpected situations occur. Like the global situation that we are all experiencing right now, at various levels.
I do not intend to make a simplistic or abstract speech, but also to share my personal experience, what are also my difficulties at the moment. Because like everyone else, I am following the rules of social distancing, paying attention to my health, to that of my loved ones, to the protection of the community in which I live. I am therefore overcoming the first obstacle, for the defense of life, which is the most precious asset we have.
But I am also humanly vulnerable, with the concern of the “afterwards”, when the emergency is over and I will have to deal with rebuilding the work, legitimate concern of many at this moment. My wonderful work wanted with all my strength, in which I put and I’m putting all my energy, passion and all my love.
And then all of a sudden at home, you can no longer travel.
Within two weeks, everything stops, you have the impression that everything collapses and you find yourself realizing how illusory your certainties are.
When things don’t go as we would like, the first human, normal reaction is to try to collect the pieces as quickly as possible to resume the old life. It is part of human nature to avoid emotional obstacles by preferring the slow and steady rhythm of a peaceful life. There is a sort of denial process … It is only for a few days then it passes. But in doing so we lose the precious opportunity of opening up to potential change.
If we are capable of being resilient, we can understand what great opportunity we have right now. The difficulties are like a knife: they cut but also refine and remodel, they allow us to completely reinvent ourselves, to indulge in something bigger. They are windows through which we can glimpse who we really are and what is possible for us.
As we learn to recognize and accept the extraordinary power of change, developing the art of abandonment, we will be rewarded with a natural alignment between body, mind and spirit that already exists within us.
An exceptionally difficult passage that shakes our foundations and makes us doubt the meaning of our existence – represents this type of radical change. It is an opportunity disguised as loss, the ability to connect with our deepest inner essence. Make the real experience of being in the here and now, of living the certainty of the here and now.
When we leave our old world we can feel a deep sense of separation. Our challenge will be to observe our way of life, freeing ourselves from the old habits and beliefs that have fortified our ego so far, but that are no longer needed. And let us start again stronger and centered.
