I understood the profound meaning of Coelho’s “The Alchemist” (“The whole universe conspires with the success of the one who is making his personal legend”), after reading Jérôme Bourgine. In an article for the French magazine “Inexploré”, the author told how the journey, in its purest essence of “going”, is an initiation into life, an accelerator of existence, an opportunity to abandon experiences that have made their time to open up new opportunities. Of growth, of meetings, of awareness. In the journey you put yourself in the game, you are confronted with your own limits and you discover your own strengths. A path of inner acquisitions that has reflections on the world around us, on relationships that call unexpressed desires. These are extreme emotions that speak of fear and joy, of sadness and enthusiasm, of hatred and love.
When moving, you walk away from your safe zone to approach the “unknown” and the “different from oneself” which, precisely because it is not known, scares and brakes. When you travel your moveyour boundaries and “risk” to find unusual situations, fearing you cannot handle them or defuse them if they are emotionally too pregnant. Traveling means to open up to the other and trusting. Nothing could be more complex in a world that has taught us individualism and that professes mistrust in the form of survival. Yet, over many years of traveling, I have found more people ready to help me and support me, than people who wanted to limit myself or create obstacles when I was far from my country.
Even my approach, however, was different, was always very open. The experts call it “mirror effect” (we live what we project in the world), personally I have renamed it “resilience effect”: it is not the events that count, but the way we react. By making them trampolines to jump upwards and not to fall. A light and available approach makes it possible to transform small and unexpected problems into unexpected opportunities capable of opening up unexpected perspectives.
The journey is an amplifier of this condition. From paying attention to oneself, to others, to messages coming from the world, useful indications are obtained to guide our path by identifying those “agents of destiny” who, as Coelho says, “conspire for the success of the one who is making “ his personal legend “. A legend that requires a bath of awareness and humility and which includes the value of “here and now” to fully enjoy the magic of life. Being in the present means to connect fully with oneself by clearly perceiving the signals that our body-mind-soul send us. Traveling, with the free spirit and free from the constraints of everyday life, every perception emerges (more) clear and the encounter with one’s soul is revealed step by step. Here is what the journey invites us to do: to know its mysteries and its depths.
