My Ideal Traveling > Blog > What budget should you plan for an Ayurvedic Retreat in India?

When you start looking for an Ayurvedic cure, an Ayurveda retreat, or an Ayurvedic wellness stay in India, the question of budget quickly comes up. Along with it, many misconceptions.

Some people believe that an authentic Ayurvedic centre must necessarily be very simple, almost austere. Others assume that a higher price automatically guarantees a deeper experience or higher-quality Ayurvedic treatments. The reality is much more nuanced.

Ayurveda belongs neither to luxury nor to the low-cost market.

“I want to go where Indians receive treatment…” This is something I often hear. However, modern India has changed considerably. Today, many Indians receive treatment in highly sophisticated Ayurvedic hospitals and medical centres, sometimes far more advanced than most Western travellers imagine. Authenticity is therefore measured neither by price nor by the degree of simplicity.

Of course, receiving treatment in Ayurvedic clinics frequented by ordinary local patients can also be a wonderful and deeply authentic experience. These are serious, effective medical facilities where people come primarily to heal. They should be appreciated for what they are: clinics—not charming resorts with five-star bedding, bohemian décor, and infinity pools overlooking coconut trees.

So yes, I can certainly take you there… but in that case, I kindly decline any complaints about a slightly firm mattress or unreliable Wi-Fi (especially since Wi-Fi is often unavailable).

Today, Ayurvedic retreats are as diverse as the travellers who choose them, and there are options for almost every budget.

For a fully inclusive Ayurvedic retreat in India—including accommodation, Ayurvedic meals, medical consultations, daily treatments, and a Panchakarma programme—three main budget ranges can generally be distinguished.

Budget option: €100–150 per day

This category usually includes simpler centres, often located inland, away from the popular beach destinations. Accommodation is generally more modest, but that certainly does not mean the Ayurvedic treatments are of lower quality.

Whenever I select this type of centre, I always ensure that it meets essential criteria: cleanliness, tranquillity, high-quality treatments, and professional medical supervision. Even the simplest centres should remain places where guests feel comfortable and well cared for.

Many travellers actually seek this simplicity: a peaceful environment with fewer distractions, allowing them to focus entirely on healing, rest, and personal renewal. My goal is always to ensure there are no unpleasant surprises.

Are there even cheaper options?
There are a few rare exceptions, but they are uncommon and usually require a greater willingness to adapt.

Mid-range budget: €150–400 per day

This is probably the best-balanced category. It can be divided into two segments: lower mid-range (€150–200) and upper mid-range (€200–400).

These centres generally offer comfortable accommodation, well-maintained facilities, excellent medical supervision, high-quality Ayurvedic treatments, and pleasant surroundings. Some feature swimming pools, larger rooms, tropical gardens, or direct access to the sea.

For many travellers, this price range offers the ideal balance between comfort, treatment quality, and serenity.

Premium retreats: from €400–500 per day and above

At the upper end of the market, prices can increase significantly, sometimes with virtually no upper limit.

Private suites, exceptional beachfront locations, refined architecture, highly personalised service, luxurious facilities, and expansive grounds are just some of the features offered by these premium centres. They combine a high-end hospitality experience with an authentic Ayurvedic cure.

For some travellers, this level of comfort is an integral part of their wellness journey. For others, it is secondary. Everyone experiences an Ayurvedic retreat differently.

What about Ayurvedic retreats in Europe?

Ayurvedic retreats in Europe are a category of their own.

You should generally expect to spend around €2,500 for one week, and sometimes considerably more. The economic realities are very different: labour costs, infrastructure, operating expenses, and regulations cannot be compared with those in India.

Since Ayurveda originated in India, it is often possible to enjoy longer stays there, with comprehensive daily treatments, at an overall cost that remains more affordable than an equivalent retreat in Europe.

Monica Bevacqua, My Ideal Traveling founder

“I have often found myself with a goodbye to make, a suitcase to prepare, a radical change to deal with and a new dimension to find. Managing changes in work, life and prospects have led me to my most authentic metamorphosis: to make a profession of the travel experience.

I  wanted to offer a choice of wellbeing paths, itineraries as evolutionary routes, to relax, disconnect the mind, but above all to learn to eat properly, to get moving, and to feel the value and importance of being at one with nature. Traveling is not only advancing, or embarking on a journey, it’s also a way to reach one’s center and direct oneself towards the other, diversity. This is where our true inner wealth is born“.
