My Ideal Traveling > Blog > Ayurveda tips for a good sleep

According to Ayurveda, Nidrā (sleep) is one of the 3 pillars that govern life.

A good rest is therefore essential for deep well-being. For the body, sleep is the time when it can use its energy to heal and repair the damage accumulated during the waking hours. Sleep is therefore as important as Ayurvedic treatment. If the body does not get enough sleep, it will not be able to repair the damage caused by stress and tension.
Sleeping too much or too little is not healthy. So what’s the right amount of sleep?
Generally, about 7-8 hours. A little less during the long summer days and a little more during the long winter nights. But more important than the duration of sleep is its quality.
Deep, restful sleep is important for the health of the body and mind.
So what are Ayurveda’s tips for a good sleep?

– go to bed early and get up early (at 10pm and 6am)
– create a morning routine for a short meditation or a walk
– create a wake-up routine always at the same time
– have a light dinner and do not go to bed on a full stomach
– leave noises, TV and cell phones out of the room.
– if possible, light a candle and remain silent for a few moments before going to sleep.

Let go of every thought and enter only the space of your breath and thus cleanse your mind of all impressions of the day, it is necessary to let go of everything, every impression, every thought, without identifying with anything. The space of the night will thus be ready to welcome you for a healthy rest.

These are some tips for getting a good night’s sleep, but sometimes there can be more important underlying problems that don’t allow us to sleep. This is why consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor is important. For those who have the opportunity to indulge in an Ayurvedic retreat, there are Ayurvedic treatment programs dedicated to restoring a good sleep.

You can find our Ayurveda retreat offers on the page dedicated to Ayurvedic treatments on our website.

Monica Bevacqua, My Ideal Traveling founder

“I have often found myself with a goodbye to make, a suitcase to prepare, a radical change to deal with and a new dimension to find. Managing changes in work, life and prospects have led me to my most authentic metamorphosis: to make a profession of the travel experience.

I  wanted to offer a choice of wellbeing paths, itineraries as evolutionary routes, to relax, disconnect the mind, but above all to learn to eat properly, to get moving, and to feel the value and importance of being at one with nature. Traveling is not only advancing, or embarking on a journey, it’s also a way to reach one’s center and direct oneself towards the other, diversity. This is where our true inner wealth is born“.
